It was one of those books that I'd owned for over a year but hadn't read. Heck, my mom had read my copy. One of my bridesmaids had read it. But for whatever reason, it kept getting bumped.... til you guys.
You have darn good taste.
Suffice to say that, as the only John Green novel I hadn't read, it didn't disappoint. Like many YA writers -- and especially contemporary YA writers -- I'm ridiculously in awe of John Green.
All of his novels are so funny, and the characters just jump off the page. I read them with a smile on my face -- though he's made me cry a couple times, but thankfully not in KATHERINES, which had the lightest tone of all his books. Anyway, they're wonderful.
So if any of you out there HAVEN'T picked up a John Green novel

John Green fans: What's your favorite JG novel? I'm torn between Katherines and Alaska. And Paper Towns. And WGWG. Crap. It's like choosing your favorite child. I can't do this!

ReplyDeleteI love everything JG writes, but this one is my favorite of his. It's just a little lighter, which makes it more fun...and you have to love Hassan!
Looking for Alaska is my favorite. It has made into my top five list of books that I'll reread no matter what. Honestly, I love everything he writes, his characterization and his voice is just fun to read!

I read (and loved) every book of his (including the short stories... and his short story in Let It Snow was simply A-MA-ZING, let me tell you, and the other authors were not bad themselves, you should give the book a shot)... but I haven't read Looking for Alaska. Same as you, I've had it sitting on my shelves for a year :S

Barnsdale - If you've read everything but one book, you're not an awful fan! hehe. But ALASKA is well worth the read, so pick it up already!
Hard to choose a favorite, because they're all so good. I guess I might have to go with Paper Towns, because it's just so original and creepy. It's kinda like a cross between Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines, I think. There's a road trip and a mysterious girl and a male protagonist that I just wanna hug. Love this author--So glad we made a good choice for you!

Thanks for sharing your review. I haven't read any of John Green's books but it sounds like I should. I tend to read mostly fantasy and paranormal, but it's always good to broaden your horizons.
